10 Reasons To Love/Hate Jersey City (2013)

#5 Strong community

Despite the differences of its residents, Jersey City maintains a strong community feel. There is a great amount of support for ongoing community events such as multiple farmers markets throughout the area, craft fairs put on by the Jersey City Craft Mafia and festivals like the annual All About Downtown Street Festival.

Murals Coming to Vacant Storefronts Along Ocean Avenue (2016)

A new beautification program is underway along Ocean Avenue in Jersey City. The program, called Make>Shift>Gallery, finds local artists and matches them to vacant storefronts to create murals and installations in the spaces. It’s the result of a collaboration between the Office of Cultural Affairs and Department of Public Works with support from the Office of Innovation. Luca Cusolito from the Office of Cultural Affairs finds and selects the artists and Brooke Hansson from the Department of Public Works coordinates with the property owners to facilitate the project.

Haute, Haute, Haute: 2013 Jersey City Studio Tour Promises To Be A Classier Affair (2013)

“…Luca Cusolito, who was selected by Pro Arts to coordinate the 2013 Artists’ Studio Tour, said last year was a “turning point” for the tour and she felt there was enough history and momentum to take the event to another
level.

“Over the years I’ve been to a lot of group art exhibitions. I like to attend Armory Week (in New York City). I like
to attend SCOPE and Art Basil in Miami. I’ve definitely gotten a taste of what other are doing to
showcase artists in a group exhibition setting. We have so many wonderful opportunities in Jersey City, we really
deserve to have something nice and something memorable, and that’s what I hope to achieve.”
